"Just give the AI the data and let it figure it out."

I heard this a couple of times last week. It is the most expensive lie in the Enterprise right now.

Yesterday, Databricks moved its "Genie" Agentic experience into Public Preview. The headline is the "Agent Mode." The real story? It now requires Automatic JOIN relationships based on primary and foreign keys to function reliably.

Translation: The "AI magic" only works if your Plumbing is perfect.

According to a fresh HBR pulse survey (March 12, 2026), 94% of you are exploring Agentic AI, but only 15% of your data estates are actually ready for it.

When you plug an autonomous agent into a "Data Swamp," you don't get insights. You get 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵-𝗩𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗛𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 and a massive cloud bill from agents looping through un-mapped joins.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁'𝘀 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲:

𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗟𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰: If your "Revenue" isn't locked in a Semantic Layer, the Agent will reinvent the definition every time it hits the warehouse.

𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆: 3NF isn't "old school." It is the only way an Agent can auto-join tables without creating a Cartesian product nightmare.

𝗜𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘆-𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗮𝗹: If the Agent doesn't inherit your Row-Level Security (RLS), your "Genie" is a walking GDPR violation.

Stop buying the "Tip of the Iceberg." Start fixing the submerged 90%.

𝗦𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄.
